Mill Bend Preserve Conservation Plan

In September, the Redwood Coast Land Conservancy (RCLC) unveiled the Conservation Plan for the Mill Bend Preserve at a public meeting and celebration. This was a major achievement and the result of two years of collaboration between the environmental consultant, Prunuske Chatham, Inc., and a dedicated Working Group of RCLC individuals that included FoGR representation.

The Abstract to the Conservation Plan for the Mill Bend Preserve is available online now, and the full plan will be available soon on the RCLC website.

The plan describes the array of natural resources that occur in the 113-acre preserve, including redwood, bishop pine, and mixed conifer forests, willow flats and a variety of wetlands. These communities, in turn, support diverse wildlife and native plants including rare species.

The Conservation Plan will be implemented over the coming years and addresses public access trails, restoration of the Gualala estuary, and on-going protection of the preserve. FoGR has been an integral part of the project from the beginning, helping to provide financial support for the property acquisition, and we will be there in the years to come as RCLC continues its work to steward this amazing preserve.
