2006 Environmental Art exhibit
Friends of the Gualala River (FoGR) sponsored an award at the Environmental Art exhibit, “Nature Working with Artists,” at the Gualala Arts Center in September 2006.
Donna Lane, with Jane Reichhold’s ‘It Pays to Pick Up Litter’
The entry is a pyramid of items which can be recycled, but which often end up littering our environment. Inside each of the many pieces of ‘trash,’ the artist wrapped a small piece of original artwork. Ms. Reichhold described her work as an example of how art can combine with the things we normally throw away to heighten environmental awareness.
FoGR views the pyramid of litter as a symbol of the myriad human impacts on our watershed. Whether it is litter, or logging, or mining, we humans do impact our watershed. We also have the power and responsibility to minimize those impacts.
