Willows hold their ground

“The lowered bar was “split” during winter and spring high flood flows, and now the main low-flow channel has stabilized in the middle of the broad gravel bar (above left). It formerly ran through the edge of mature alder and willow riparian vegetation on the east side of the bar (above right).”

“The new channel and bar alignment at Valley Crossing has shifted the main channel into the willow grove planted by Matrix of Change a few years ago. The bank is eroding, but the willows so far have been large and mature enough to hold their ground.”
