Who is watching our watershed?

Speakers at this month’s Sea Ranch Forum will discuss “The Gualala River Watershed: Our River, Our Water Supply,” which will be held on September 4, 2010 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Del Mar Center at The Sea Ranch. Members of the local community are invited to attend.

Although many people depend on the Gualala River for their water supply, not much is known about which agencies and groups play a role in protecting the river. Who regulates how much water can be taken from the river? Who monitors water quality? Who oversees the health of the river? What threats does the watershed face? These questions and more will be addressed about the river that provides our water and what is being done to monitor and protect this essential community resource.

Speakers will include Kathleen Morgan of the Gualala River Watershed Council, Rue Furch, former long-term member of the Sonoma County Planning Commission, Chris Poehlmann and Peter Baye from Friends of the Gualala River, and Jody Sparks, a consultant on environmental and water issues.

Del Mar Center is located on The Sea Ranch. Turn west onto Deer Trail (Highway One Sonoma County mile marker 56.88). Turn right on Leeward Road and turn right again at the first driveway. For further information, contact Forum Chair Leigh Mueller, 785-9533.
